Meet The Yardeners

Christine posing with Grizz in the Spring rain

Welcome to our Yarden!  I'm Christine and I really enjoy people excited about the biology that happens around them every day. In our Yarden we try our hands at growing plants, flowers, and produce that we find to be interesting and/or delicious.

Working at a major university, I have had the unique chance to learn from an incredibly deep well of knowledge from greenhouse experts, medicinal garden gurus, ecologists, and plant physiologists... but that hasn't kept me from making mistakes (or we call them "alternative hypotheses" lol). The learning community centered around my yardening and general insect interest keep me excited to share our yardening experiences with others. Both our successes and blunders.

Personal opinion: Carnivorous plants are some of the most fascinating examples of evolution / ecology / species interactions / physiology /
B I O L O G Y ! ! !

We grow several Venus Flytraps (Dionaea muscipula), North American Pitcher Plants (Sarracenia spp.), and South American Pitcher Plants (Nepenthes spp.).  And before you have a chance to ask: Yes, it feels GREAT when I hand feed mosquitoes to the Flytraps!  :D

RAIN OR SHINE, IT'S YARDENING TIME!
